So with it being the season of tricks and treats, how do people feel about a Halloween party of sorts? It could either be at the Institute, limited to students/faculty/X-Men, or it could be off somewhere in town, and everyone can attend. A masked costume party would be fun. And of course crazy hijinks ensue.

Sure, why not? Would be a pity to allow a good holiday to go to waste.
Public sounds like more fun... we've been doing a lot of X/BH-only stuff lately, might be fun to let the two teams mingle. (Um, well, besides Bobby and John, who are already mingling.) Maybe some kind of high-society shindig where both teams get the idea that this would be a good way to file the rough edges off of some of their more rough-edged members.
If folks are into something more weird/plotty, rather than just being social, we could go with the classic magical masquerade trope... some kind of magical whooziwatzit makes it so that at midnight everyone develops the personality of their costume for an hour. (Part of an elaborate plot to cause chaos to distract everyone from The Real Thing That's Happening, whatever that is, which we might or might not ever find out about or deal with.)

Hee, that would be awesome! The costume=personality thing, especally, but even if that part doesn't happen, it still sounds freakin' awesome.
...Only, now I gotta decide on a costume for all of my folks, or at least two out of three, and we know that'll drive me crazy until I think of everything down to detail...And quite possibly try to draw it...
Roguey'll pro'lly go vampire. Just because it's got the whole ironic thing, and the ties with Evo!Rogue being goth, which I like.

I like the idea of the teams mingling, and not realizing who is who with the costumes, which is ridiculous considering there are telepaths on the teams, but whatever.
The costume party could be at the Hellfire Club - the idea flashed into my mind from Ultimate X-Men. Something could develop there, or it could just be a cute nod to canon stuff.
This has delicious holiday!crack potential.

.... mingling? Is that what we're calling it now? I'm up for it. Like Josh says, it should be deliciously crack!, and the *cute canon nod* appeals to me Aside from that it gives me a whole 'nother characterisation issue to agonise over ( you know I love doing that, really) it sounds like hecka fun. Besides, Halloween always was my favourite holiday, and a site-wide event like that would be fun, getting everyone interacting outside of the wierd shit that's going down and giving some of the other charrys a chance to rp with those of us who tend to stick to certain *rp cliques*. Ooh... the potential!

I think the idea sounds great. I'm always up for a bit of mingling (although not of the sort that Bobby and Pyro might have in mind), cause you guys know me, I like to show the more sophisticated side of Mags anyway ^^. The Hellfire Club idea is great, maybe even have a brief glimpse of a few more notable members, just to give it that 'Oh wow, is that!' feeling if you know what I mean. Also, I think it would be interesting to see how those such as Pyro and Bob would react to one another when in the company of their respective team, should be oh so fun. ^__^

Oo, the Hellfire Club. Yeah, that sounds cool. I vaguely recall a bit of canon about the Worthingtons having a hereditary membership... Warren can invite the rest of the Institute (kinda like he did for the rave, except unlimited headcount). Both Sherridan and Mags could easily have a similar deal. Especially if the Hellfire Club is checking them all out as potential candidates... or potential opponents... and therefore invited them specially. Which also gives the unaffiliated a reason for being there, as well as introducing random NPC mutants, celebrities, government agents, etc. Which gives the Xmen and BH a vaguely plausible reason for not simply pounding on each other. There's a lot of publicity here and a lot of innocent bystanders, which stops the mostly-good-guys from starting a firefight. Mags knows Emma/Shaw will be annoyed if he ruins their party, so he keeps the BH in check. And if anyone turns into a loose cannon from either team, mysterious high-tech security devices bzot them into unconsciousness before they can cause trouble.
Actually, it might be interesting to introduce the late-80s canon hellfire club (Emma Frost, Sebastian Shaw, Jason Wyngarde, that poncy cyborg guy, the Hellions) as ongoing NPC opponents to both the Brotherhood (to whom they object because all this overt violence is bad for business, and besides Mags is too powerful to be allowed to run loose as a free agent) and the X-Men (whom they could care less about, really, but the X-Men oppose the HC because, well, um, they're bad!). Not make them the primary focus of the site or anything, but it would be cool to have recurring common enemies that would support reluctant-ally sorts of scenes between BH and XM members.
WRT the costume=personality thing... hm. OK, try this on for size: - Emma has built (or has had built for her) a specialized telepathic amplifier/concealer gadget that she and Wyngarde intend to use together to subtly affect the minds of everyone at the party, turning them into potential recruits (not outright mind control, more like long-term gradual personality alteration, like what Wyngarde did to Jean in the comics).
- Magnus invites Wanda to the party. The attempt to use Emma's gadget on Wanda fails due to a completely implausible and thoroughly unrepeatable combination of mechanical failure and weird power spikes, with the entirely ridiculous side-effect of radically altering everyone's personality... in most cases at least, leaving them with the overpowering delusion that they actually are the character they are costumed as.
- Wanda is, of course, unaffected. (If only because she'll be wearing her normal outfit.) She beats a hasty retreat once things start getting weird.

I love your brain sometimes when I'm not busy loving other partsWRT the ongoing NPC's... hell yes. If everyone else is in favour, I think we should definitely run with that. Yay for 1980's canon (which yes, I have a twisted affection for. It's my childhood, after all). And wrt the great crack!personality-change... that's a plot worthy of the 1980's cartoon, and one I'm willing to run with. Now I just have to come up with a costume

Warren......your a genius ^^. I love the throwback HFC, and you are corrrect on the Worthington membership thing and if i do remember correctly myself, Mags was invited to join and was at one time a member, the Gray King I think, but anywho, not important, so, my vote goes in once again.

Well it definitely looks like there is interest, and the costume idea sounds hilarious. ;D
Does someone want to start this up, or should I start with Robin? It might make a little more sense if a character with a little more seniority or connection to the Hellfire Club lay out the scene and background than a random student.

I think it makes sense for either Warren or Magneto to start it, since we've already established that they're the ones with the history with, and stake in, the HFC. So if either of you is willing, go ahead and kick things off.
Random question, though, do we want to do this as just a thread with everyone posting, or do you want me to create either *The Hellfire Club* as a permanent location or a *special event* board similar to the *Boston Fallout* one in flashbacks (where there can be numerous threads running parallel at the same event, although as a general rule I;d say each charry can only be PC'd in one thread at any one time... obviously any major IC events would then be NPC'd across threads as they occured so charrys could react and all)?

Well, I think Warren should start the thread and I'll follow suit as soon as I can. I have to work for the next three days so I won't be posting till probably late Friday night, my time guys (Eastern Seaboard of the States), which I think is like five or six hours behind all you Brits. As for the Hellfire Club board....perhaps in the other locales category I think, for now, cause who knows, maybe someone might take up one of those monikers later on.....

K, Warren will start it up when I get the chance. And yeah, I'd say leave it in "other locales" for now. If a lot of people actually start posting and we want to set up multiple different at-the-party threads, we can create it as its own location, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Hmm, as my shola inkosi applic has been sitting there untouched for ages... i might make Jubes join the Hellfire club, the whole depressed doubtfull stuff that i was going for before my internet went all crazy could be the perfect thing to drive her into the HFC's open arms.
