So, I’m thinking we could use a common-threat plot to bind the PCs from the various groups together a little, give us opportunity for between-group RP.
Various ideas have been bounced around (Apocalypse, Sentinels, an anti-mutant government, Emma Frost as a solo agent, alien invasion…).
In the interests of moving things forward, here’s a specific concrete proposal involving Emma Frost:
So, I’m putting this out there for comment and to get some thinking going, though I don’t intend to kick anything off until bobnap and all its aftermaths have died down.

Various ideas have been bounced around (Apocalypse, Sentinels, an anti-mutant government, Emma Frost as a solo agent, alien invasion…).
In the interests of moving things forward, here’s a specific concrete proposal involving Emma Frost:
- Project Strikeback is a multinational covert project with the goal of assembling forces, tactics, technologies, etc. to track and “neutralize” mutant enemies. Officially, this is a response option only, in case of mutants starting an all-out race war.
- After the Holloween fiasco, Sebastian and others work out that Emma was responsible for the mess. She is exiled from the Hellfire Club, a contract is put out on her head, she goes into hiding.
- Emma decides the best defense is a good offense and begins subverting Project Strikeback. Her intention is to turn them into her own private army and use them to take out the Hellfire Club’s Inner Circle altogether, replacing them with her own agents. So Strikeback assembles a mission protocol for going after the inner circle.
- While she’s at it, she decides she might as well also use Strikeback to invade the Institute, since that way she can get her hands on Cerebro, which would make her absurdly powerful. Strikeback assembles a mission protocol for that too.
- All of this is, of course, nontrivial… especially to do secretly. So it takes them a while to actually build up the material and personnel to do this with high odds of success. They intend to move some time next March.
- Unfortunately, by complete coincidence, Josh and Warren end up going out dancing at an upper-class social club in Paris (where Warren takes Josh for his birthday) at the same time as one of the high-level Strikeback operatives is there doing something important. He recognizes them, knows Josh is a telepath, figures (incorrectly) that their cover has been blown and dispatches a squad to neutralize them before they can report back.
- After being chased and shot at for a while (we envision something like a James Bond movie), Warren and Josh finally manage to call the Institute. They still have no idea what’s going on except that there’s some absurdly well-equipped paramilitary group after them, but the Strikeback team figures their cover has been blown and initiates the Institute invasion protocol (even though they aren’t quite prepared to execute it yet).
- The Institute is invaded (much like X2, except Cerebro has better defenses this time). When the smoke clears, most of the students are still alive and well but Cerebro is gone. They want it back!
- Meanwhile, both the Brotherhood and the HFC become aware, through their various contacts, that Emma is behind all this. ZOMG! Emma + Cerebro = VERY VERY BAD.
- So the end result here is that HFC, BH, and Institute all want the same thing: find Emma and the Strikeback HQ and get Cerebro out of their hands. (They likely disagree about its eventual disposition. Not sure where that ends up but we can decide it later. Perhaps Cerebro gets destroyed altogether, and Sheppard is sad.)
So, I’m putting this out there for comment and to get some thinking going, though I don’t intend to kick anything off until bobnap and all its aftermaths have died down.
