Baby steps

[Warren Worthington III]

"Swimming so late?", Warren stammers as Riley hands him his clothes (though not, he notices, the gin bottle that started all this). "Thanks, Riley. Oh, wow... it is late, isn't it. Um... yeah. I should get to bed... long day tomorrow. Night ladies!"

He doesn't even bother pulling his pants back on before taking off again, just launches into the sky. Not the most embarassing day he's had at the Institute, probably... though he can't think of a more embarassing one off hand... but still not a habit he'd like to continue.

On the other hand, he'd been looking for something to pull his head out of the hole he'd had it in since those skinheads... and this little interlude certainly qualifiied! Once he got over being embarassed he'd probably be amused.

He lands back on the lakehouse roof, pulls his boxers on, grabs the bottle and takes off again. Maybe he'll finish the bottle some other time.

The sound of wings and something being handed out (probably clothes) got Shayla's attention and she finally lowered her hands. There wasn't any pretty angel naked man or naked woman. Well, the man was gone and the naked woman was just clothed, so it all worked out and there were no more embarrassing moments or no evil inner mind. There was one tiny problem though.. she was outside when it was supposed to be nappy time. She doubted they would actually tell anyone (they would have to explain what they were doing there anyway) but... one can never be too sure, right?

"Don't worry, I won't tell anyone about your nightly naked swims. Your naughty secret is safe with me!" Shayla raised her right arm and placed her palm over where her heart was, this being some sort of 'promise' gesture.

Hopefully this would all work out and the chick would turn out to be nice and actually accept the sort of friendship offer.

After changing and giving Warren his clothes, Riley heard him say that it was late and that he should be going to bed. He then took off and headed for the mansion, before she could say a word. Riley just shrugged it off a bit, knowing that he really just want to get out of here and as far away from this embarassment moment as possible.

Riley soon turned her attention on the girl. She noticed that she had lowered her hands now. Riley laughed as the girl promised that she wont tell anyone what she had saw. "Alright. And I promise not to tell anyone that you were up and out this late." she told her.

She then walked a bit closer to the girl. "So why are you up anyway?" she asked her. She then remembered that she forgot to mention her name. "Oh, by the way I'm Riley." she told her with a smile. Riley hoped that they would get along well and become good friends.

"I was dreaming a fish was going to eat me. Had to go out." She blurted out without thinking. Great not only do I interrupt her goody-goody moment now I go all "Analyze my dream pwease!" Shayla was so used to the mutants with greater power control to treat her differently (Northstar being on top of her meanies list) that the chick's attitude was a bit... surprising. Then again she barely tried to engage on any actual conversations that lasted longer then 2 minutes.

"I'm Shayla Blume, you can call me Lumen if ya want. Simple and well, shorter." With her right hand still place on her chest she moved her left arm and raised her little finger. "Pinky promise?" It was pretty obvious what that meant, but in some places it could be considered the "I need to pee" or "Oh wow, I love you!" signal and that wouldn't be good at all. After all Riley was about to become her possible friend, better to start off good, not counting the previous incident.

When Riley heard what Lumen blurted out, she tried not to laugh. "You were dreaming of a fish trying to eat you? Well what type of fish was it?" she asked her with a smile.She thought that Lumen was a funny and interesting person.
"Yeah I can understand why you wanted to get out. I'm usually out here a lot around this time, I have no idea why, but I just can't sleep." she told Lumen, which was the main reason why she was out, and then she soon met Warren right afterwards and the drama soon began.

Soon Riley heard her mention what her name. "Nice to meet you Lumen." she said to her. Right after Lumen told her her name, she noticed her raising her left hand and putting out her pinky. Riley knew right away what she was doing, and she put her pinky up as well.

At Riley's question Lumen thought it would be hard to explain how the fishes were, considering how weird her dreams used to be so she just shrugged, not giving it much importance. "Big fishy like."

You can't sleep and go here for some goody-goody time, eh? Trying to ignore the return of the evil mean (as she liked to call it) Lumen smiled at Riley and put their pinky fingers together doing something that was similar to a hand shake, only in this case it was some sort of pinky finger shake.

"Don't ya have a codename?" She asked this because the other mutant had only presented herself as Riley. Unless she had one of those self titled code names.

Riley watched as Lumen put their two pinkys together. Then they shaked them as if they were doing a hand shake. Once they finished shaking, they both let go and went back to talking some more.

Soon Lumen asked her is she had a code name. Riley looked down at the ground for a moment. She felt a little bad and embarassed, because everyone here has some sort of code name except her. Riley soon looked back up at her. "Well... umm... no. I don't have a code name. Well not yet anyways." she told her.

Finding out that Riley had no codename was strange for Shayla; she thought everyone at the institute had a code name or something similar to it. She would have suggested something by now but choosing names wasn't exactly her thing. The reason that she picked 'Lumen' was the similarity with her powers. All the things she could do where related to light or energy so the name went well with her. Besides sparkle was too kiddy, even for her.

"Well I'm sure you'll find a code name soon. Just think about stuff related to your powers." She told Riley, after all... it was what she had done to get her code name so it had to work on others as well.

It was still pretty dark outside and it looked like the sky was getting a bit clearer. Lumen had to idea how much time had passed but one thing was sure, if she didn't go back now, she was going to get in trouble again.

"Sorry! I have to go now or else I'm dead by tomorrow... well, today. But you know what I mean. Yeah um, it was cool but uh, bye." Yeah, Lumen had a great way to handle her words. Creating another sphere (only this one smaller in size) she waved good-bye at Riley and did one of her powered jumps the little sphere of energy fading as she got closer to her dorm.
