Why did you do that?
Roger does not even flinch beneath the gaze, staring back beneath his dark eyebrows and from the muddled, blank windows of his irises. The boy seems to think, his hand still stretched out into thin air, tilting his head to one side. He lets his hand drop and dangle over the side of the bed, pale fingers still. "Because...," he says, as though his words were enough to allow him to touch Sherridan's tail all he liked. "..because I wanted to.." There obviously is truth to Roger's words, able to hold more water it would allow until it spilled over the edges. There was and is no other desire for Roger to touch the smooth fur that reminds him of a cat besides the one at hand--because he wanted to.
Kitty, kitty, kitty.. The cat is purring beneath the touch of his hand, pushing its head up into his palm. But it runs away at its master's call and the sound of dry food clattering in a metal bowl.

Sherridan sighs, shaking his head lightly. I should have guessed as much... he thinks as his eyes open to look at the boy once more. "OK..." he says absently, moving his tail away from the other's reach this time, for prevention if nothing else.
Why do people have the impulse to pet me? I will truly never understand it... he wonders, his fur switching to a white-and-black, but not a tiger pattern. His hands and bare feet are white, as well as the tip of his tail, and the rest is black fur. He remembers how people thought he looked absolutely adorable with that fur. Back then he was still innocent. His eyes still had that childish look of curiosity.
Now it is all gone. The look of a curious innocent child has been substituted by the look of a professional businessman, and a professional killer, a hardened criminal, as the cliche states.
