Warren has mixed feelings when Josh evades the water-spray. On the one hand, after all the work he’s done training Josh to evade attacks rather than count on multi-tasking his telekinesis for propulsion and defense, it’s nice to see results; on the other, he’d been counting on the few seconds’ lead the maneuver was supposed to give him, and instead Josh has actually gained slightly.
The bedsheet trick, by contrast, works far better than he’d expected; Josh not only loses ground but almost plummets to it as Warren pushes himself and his screaming passenger hard towards the Gate... or at least where he remembers the Gate being, since the thunderstorm has reduced visibility, even for his windsense, down to near-zero.
> Trying to wrong-foot me, huh? You’re in so much trouble, buster!
That gets a laugh – not so much the line, as the tone of thought in which it’s delivered. Well, if you want to tangle me up in wet bedsheets later, we – his bantering response is cut off by the spike of fear and dismay from Josh’s mind as the Zone is briefly lit by a flash of lightning. A moment later he gets close enough to the Gate to notice two things – the Gate itself is open, and Storm is floating several feet above it, her eyes glowing white. Ah… that explains it, then.
“Green Team - Impulse eliminated. New team leader: Maverick.”
Warren flinches slightly as he steps into the Neutral Zone with Storm. "Ouch. Glad you’re on my team." After some negotiation, Storm takes possession of the Flag-Bearer and the three head through the death-traps toward their home Zone.
