Name:
Daniel “Danny” Blackburn
Codename:
Tempero
Age:
18
Mutation:
It’s as simple as this- Daniel depends on the good will and powers of other mutants. He is able to exert his mind so that he gets to say how well the mutant he is targeting can control his or her power. In other words, he can target a single mutant, and then use his mind to add to the amount of control the mutant has over the mutation. So, in example, a teenage telekinetic who still can’t possibly control his power beyond pushing things around could, with Daniel’s help, do very fine types of telekinesis, such as writing with a pencil on the other end of the room in perfect handwriting. This mutation has several “features” that come in a sort of a package.
First off, even without the consent of a mutant, Daniel can link with him or her (without any thoughts shared) and amplify their power and/or increase their control over it, according to the level of control Daniel has over his own power.
Secondly, Daniel gets a special form of telepathy, in which he can link to a person and share thoughts with them, this, however, mostly works on indifferent, or even better, willing people, since Daniel still can’t fight with anyone over their own mind. To do this with a hostile, or unwilling mutant, he has to intrude their mind, which he still hasn’t learned how to do.
Third, if he wants to decrease the amount of control the mutant has over their power, Daniel once more has to intrude their mind, or manage to trick them into letting him inside, which has proven to be the easiest way so far.
Fourth, if a willing mutant he is already telepathically linked to allows Daniel to do this, the teen can copy the person’s mutation and apply it to himself. In this case, however, the two have to stay in a 100-meter radius and they share the same amount of control over the same power, which even though it’s duplicated doesn’t loose on it’s strength. If they move out of range, or the mutant decides not to let Daniel share their mutation any more, the link is completely destroyed, and neither of the two suffer any consequences of it- it is as if the link never existed.
In order to use any of these abilities, Daniel has to have a line of sight to the mutant, even if just one of their leg. Also, in order to perform anything other than telepathy, Daniel has to have the mutant in a 200 meter range, except for the special link, which has an even shorter range. The telepathy works as long as Daniel can see the target, and the target is willing or indifferent to the intrusion of their mind.
Edit:
As of recently, Danny has developed an invasive kind of telepathy (or will do so in the following few threads), and therefore these few options are either open, or soon to be through gradual development, to him:
*Power Decrease:
By establishing a telepathic link and then bridging to the mutation of his target, he is able to repress the mutation of another, effectively making them human. It can have really bad consequences (as seen in the CTF thread when Danny tries this new power out for the first time on Warren) if a mutant has a body-altering, permanently active mutation, as the regression to human form can be, and most likely will be, painful. Daniel's first use of this power is in the CTF thread, and he was able to do it merely on the basis that the "enemies" were not able to use their own powers on him in the zone. Otherwise, like with all the other uses of his mutation, any rupture of the concentration needed to do this, as well as anything that blocks line of sight to the whole body of the mutant, disables the use of this ability, or stops it.
*Control Decrease:
Similarly to power decrease, this version of offensive power manipulation actually makes Danny capable of reducing the, as the title says, amount of control a mutant has over their mutation, but still keeping the mutation itself. For example, if Daniel was to use this on someone who is a telekinetic with very fine control over their mutation, they would revert to being able to only roughly manipulate objects, or even just throw them around, depending on how much effort Danny used. He is not yet able to do this, but will be after a while.
*Copy Powers (without consent):
Implied by the newly developed intrusive telepathy, Daniel can now copy others' powers without them agreeing to it. Still, any type of telepathic intrusion includes the target's right and power to resist Daniel's mind, and if they do so in the short time he is there, "searching for the mutation", he must try again with intrusion. As with all others, including power and control decrease, Daniel needs a line-of-sight and a certain amount of concentration to successfully use these abilities, so anything that might hinder either of those prevents the abilities from being effective.
*Mutation Vision:
By closing his eyes and concentrating in the slightest, Danny can "see" the mutations of others, which manifest as colored strings running the course of the person's body. He simultaneously sees all of these genetic signatures that are in his usual area of vision. The humans in the area are noted as only having gray "ribbons", as Danny refers to them, while each mutant has their own color. Danny has also noticed that similar mutations usually have colors that are close together- telepaths, telekinetics, Astral projecters, and all the other "mind affecting" mutants are, for example, perceived as different variations (and slight ones at that) of dark blue. Any shapeshifter seems to have a multi-colored signature.
*Power Proficiency:
Up to now, whenever Danny copied one's power, he automatically had their proficiency with it. From now on, whenever he copies a power, he is just a novice with it, having to learn all the steps by himself. Effectively, it is as if he started with that power and therefore must practice with it to be good at using it. However, once he finishes a single session of copying someone's powers, he does not lose the proficiency he has gained by himself. Effectively, multiple training sessions in copying a hydrokinetic's mutation would improve Danny's control over the mutation, rather than be starting every time from the very beginning.

Physical Description:
Having warm, friendly, and most of all, green eyes, accompanied by a clean smooth skin, short, slightly messy hair, white in color, and a friendly smile always prepared, Daniel is on people’s good lists as soon as they meet him. He is tall, at about 6’2”, and he is very nicely built, considering that he practices Tai Chi every day as well as having normal work-outs three times a week. His skin has the quite normal tone of an average person exposed to moderate amounts of sunshine, and he is known to always have the sent of good perfumes about him, a new one every week (he doesn’t overdo it with the squirting, though, simply stacks the rest for later).
Daniel doesn’t have a clothing preference, but simply wears what he feels comfortable in, although he does pay attention to whether the clothes match or not (it is very unlikely that one will see him in something that just simply doesn’t fit- if one does, they can be sure it’s either some kind of joke or party in question). Still, it’s generally some laid-back style with bright colors. A silver amulet in shape of a dragon is always around his neck.
Daniel stands out in any crowd, mainly because of his white hair, but even if it was a normal color, he would be easy to spot in a crowd. He is simply one of those people who stand out, and catch your attention even if you can’t see a single thing in front you because you’re blind or it’s pitch dark in the room. If one used compared his appearance in the crowd to a group photo, he would be the single focused thing, and dominant, no matter whether he is in the middle, end, or wherever, with everything else around blurry as hell.
Personality:
Daniel has a booming personality, and he is extremely charismatic. His eyes emit a certain, at these times almost unfamiliar, warmth of someone who actually cares about your problems and worries, be they as big as world domination, or as small as not finding any bubblegum in the stores. He has a surprisingly melodic voice, which makes almost every word sound as if it’s dedicated right to the listener and no one else. The voice and eyes, accompanied with the very friendly and encouraging smile make him like one of those people who seem to exist for only one purpose- to listen and talk to you, and you alone.
Behind this outer layer lies a caring, smart person, who will go to great lengths to help someone he cares for, and he cares for allot of people, making friends wherever he goes, socially dancing both the tango, the rumba, and the waltz, all three with great energy, talent, skill, and grace. Most people, however, take these qualities for granted, and don’t count on anything that could prove to be a good student in the least bit. This is where they are wrong, for Daniel is looking at a perfect GPA at his high school, setting a record in it.
So what could possibly be wrong with this person, who is academically, physically, and socially perfect? Allot of things. First off, Daniel is claustrophobic, to the extent of not feeling comfortable when in any room, although he has learned to control himself when indoors. Then, he doesn’t like being alone, and this is another one of the reasons why he is always out and about, looking for people to hang out with, be they old friends, or complete strangers. When alone, Danny gets the feeling that he is suffocating, and dying, and he hates it, or in his own words: “When alone I feel like I could curl up and die and not a single person would notice it or miss me. I need someone to care for me as well as I need to care for that someone.”
Another, probably the worst of all, problem is that he grows to like, and eventually trust, people quite easily, seeing every person as his friend to start with. Very few, however, are those people whom Daniel actually trusts enough to confine in, revealing all his secrets to them.
Background:
Daniel was born and raised in New York, and is currently living with the person who is to thank for having protected and taken care of him for the past 13 years- his brother Dominic, who is his 41 year old uncle, whom Daniel sees more as a big brother than an uncle.
But we need to backtrack some more to find out why Daniel is living with his uncle. He is four years old now, and is in the nursery home where his parents have left him for the day. Without a worry in mind, little Danny plays with his toys and the other children, waiting for Mommy and Daddy to come and get him. But they are late! And they don’t come for the next few hours.
In fact they don’t come at all, but his uncle comes and takes him home. “You’re going to sleep with me for a while, Danny” he says and with that, the boy stays with his uncle for the next few weeks before he asks him where his parents are. “Danny…you are going to live with me for a while, a few years, before I take you to see your parents. It’s…a deal we’ve made.” the uncle replies, still speaking in a sort of a riddle.
It was four years later that Daniel was actually taken to his parents. To his parents’ graves, that is, where he was told the whole story of how they were in a car accident, with a drunk driver in the other vehicle, and how Dominic was the closest living relative capable and willing of taking care of the child.
It was not until his teens that Daniel said anything more than he had to say, only answering questions, living in a sort of a world in between dreams and reality, not capable of feeling anything, or thinking straight, taking too long to recover, even for the circumstances he was in. During this time, Daniel had learned what it really meant to be alone, and he didn’t like it one bit, the roots of his first phobia taking place there and then.
When he hit 14, Daniel suddenly discovered his mutation, even though it has been actually active for the past few years. There was simply no way of telling, with a power like his. It was when he got in contact with a mutant girl, an empath, in the middle of the courtyard of his high school (a new surrounding and a good place for a fresh start). It was so that the girl suddenly started feeling everything around her, all the hundreds of emotions in the area, and curled down into a screaming ball of pain. In a flash, Daniel was there trying to help the normal way, when he found his own thoughts mixed with hers, and all that topped off with the emotions of everyone around. Somehow, though, it was allot easier to shut those voices off now, and he helped the girl do this, making his first, and soon to become best, friend.
The next day, a bunch of upperclassmen, two of them being telekinetic mutants, shoved Daniel in a locker, leaving him there for an hour, creating the root for the boy’s second claustrophobia. An hour was not much, right? Well, it was when there was a complete silence around him, sparking an old fear of being alone. By the time they opened the locker, Daniel was curled in a fetal position and shivering, without a word said.
It took two years of hard practice to be able to even enter a classroom, and Daniel took the classes in Internet, at a computer in the middle of a very large room, with his uncle always by him, trying to fight off the boy’s fears. And here he is now, living with Dominic, or sleeping in the same house rather, since there is rarely a moment when the boy is actually in the house, and not out and about talking with people, hanging out with others, and meeting others.

Daniel looks at his watch. Midnight. He should probably be back at the house soon, but he’s having too much fun with John, Dianne, and Marry to just go. Who knew that the late-night people were this fun? They were all three or more years older than him, but with him being more mature than most 17-year olds and them being very pleasant and open, there was no communication problem, which meant that they will soon find themselves on Daniel’s very good friend list.
He looks around, and then notices some more people coming towards the four. “Um, are these guys your friends?” he asks, and the three reply negatively. Daniel thinks that the approaching people are not very friendly, and he steps a few inches closer to the middle of the other three. Dianne asks one of the men what they want.
“We are here to teach you muties a lesson about invading our turf.” One says. He is holding a baseball bat. The others have some kind of wooden or metal object each, obviously not used for gardening or welcome gifts. Well, they are a certain sort of a welcome gift, but not actually all that welcome.
“We can’t fend them off, you’ll have to lift us, John!” one of the girls says, Daniel can’t really tell which one, as he is very scared right now. What are these people going to do to them? Then, finally, the words that one of the girls said sink in, and Daniel looks at John. “There’s little time, John, just accept my mind in yours and me borrowing your powers, and I think we’ll manage to get out alive.” He says quickly, relieved that the acceptance is sent back to him immediately, and he concentrates.
After a few moments he feels the power of telekinesis running through his body, and also a huge amount of control just ready to be used. Excellent, the guy has great control, and Danny is boosting it to almost a perfect level. Soon enough, all four are in mid air, and moving at a high speed away from the men. In about five minutes, Daniel feels that he is starting to loose the grip on his own powers, and sends the message to his friend.
They land near the place where Dominic lives, so Daniel doesn’t have to walk far to get home. As soon as they touch the ground, the teen drops to his knees to rest a bit, exasperated from the amount of effort it took to keep his power this long over someone with such a strong amount of control. The better the control the targeted mutant has, the harder it is for Daniel to keep up increasing it, loosing the grip on his own power. More practice will definitely prove invaluable in the view of fixing this.
After a few minutes, the four leave, and Danny returns home, carefully avoiding the very narrow hallway on one side of the house. Dominic is fast asleep; a feat luxurious to the man, considering that he has a teenager in his home. Quickly getting ready for bed, Daniel jumps into the comfy heaven of white softness, and falls asleep thinking of what could have happened, extending his thoughts to a number of very bad nightmares which make sure he doesn’t get anything near a good night’s sleep.
