Welcome to a time of Revolution. A time of darkness and despair. A time where the X-Men are loosing their battle against the Brotherhood because they are simply too tired to fight. The Institute is no longer a safe place to be. Brotherhood Agents attack at least once a week. Trying to get to the people that stand in their way. They want mutants to rule the world, to be in control. And they’re prepared to go to any ends to manage it.
With Jean and the Professor gone the X-Men need a miracle. A miracle they can use to win the endless battle. Someone stronger than the normal everyday mutant. They need Jean Grey. Too bad she’s long gone. But there is another Level Five out there, with the power to destroy the planet just as Jean could have done. But this mutant is nowhere to be found. She went missing a few weeks ago from her home in the South and hasn’t been seen since.
Ororo Monroe trekked through the storms that were gathering over the mountains. She knew she was causing them but her heart was too heavy to do anything about it. She knew the end was nearing, unless they could find that mutant before the Brotherhood did. As she passed by a particular mountain she heard a whimper of fear.
A small woman (more of a girl actually) was lying semi-conscious in the thick snow. But there was something funny. It appeared to be melting around her. As if she was radiating heat. Storm crouched down thinking that this girl probably had some sort of mutant ability. But when she touched the injured girl’s cheek it was ice cold. Almost burningly so. Not thinking about the consequences she scooped the girl up and carried her off, if she was a mutant she belonged at Xavier’s.
When she kicked through the doors of the Institute the girl was just coming around. Logan wandered out of the classroom he’d been teaching in. Jubilee and Rogue at his side. He heard Rogue gasp in horror as she surveyed the girl. “What happened to my sister?” She demanded.
-------------------------
Meanwhile over in the Brotherhood Camp things were not looking good at all. Their search for the new level five had come up with nothing. They had Magneto back but he seemed to be cracking the whip even harder. He wanted the Brotherhood to recruit, recruit and recruit some more. It was beginning to show on his face how stressed he was.
He had a new plan but it was his alone to keep and only would tell when he had all he needed. No one knows what plot is hidden inside his mind. Could it mean destruction or peace? The second option being highly doubtful to all that know him.
--------------------------
“You found her in the Mountains? We search everywhere and then you find her in the mountains?” Demanded Logan in irritation. Why had no one thought to check there before? Surely a Level Five should have been easy to locate. They gave off such a radiation of power it was hard to miss them at all.
“Yes Logan… I found Summer in the mountains… But she’s still very weak.”
“I don’t care… We need her up and about, learning to control her powers.”
“Yes but there’s a problem.”
“What?”
“She may end up like Jean.” Spoke Storm simply.
“What why?” He spat.
“Because of Nightmare. Her codename is rather a show of what is going on in her head.”
“You mean she’s like Phoenix?”
“Not in so many words, I mean she’s still very young… But with the Professor gone.”
*************************
So now the darkness is closing in is this new Level Five the light? Or will her power over throw her mind? Will Magneto’s power and plot take over the world and it’s humans? What is the plot? Will the members of the X-Men ever claim victory over the Brotherhood Agents? Or will the battles simply continue to rage inside and out of the Institure.
Only time can tell now:
The Nightmares Have Begun
