Post by Josh Dalton Worthington on Aug 29, 2006 1:19:01 GMT
Name: Joshua Dalton
Codename: none, as of yet. Hoping someone can provide him with some inspiration.
Age: 17 (born Dec 1, 1988)
Mutation:
Josh has the power of telekinesis. He can use the power of his mind to lift and manipulate almost anything. That’s the most simple explanation, but since he has come to the Institute, he’s gained more control, accomplishing the following at some point:
-Josh has learned to employ his telekinesis into a shield to deflect objects and other powers. The more powerful and larger the field, the harder it is to do. He has found it fairly simple to create a forward-facing personal shield.
- One trick Josh has been working on is levitating himself, if only because being able to fly would be awesome. The first time he seriously put effort into it culminated in a nasty broken ankle and a trip to the med lab. He’s found it fairly straightforward to levitate things a good deal heavier than himself, but for some reason using his powers on himself is very…. awkward. No one has come up with any solutions as of yet, though Logan offered to throw him off the balcony. Josh declined. Shortly after Warren arrived at the Institute, he took Josh on a flight over the lake. The two of them were able to break through his mental block, and Warren taught Josh to fly. Since then, he’s also been seen to make gravity-defying leaps using his powers.
-He also seems to have some telepathic skill, but this is very non-invasive - currently, he’s able to communicate with someone else over a short distance. His range seems to be about a mile. He’s hoping to work with Jake to develop this power a little more. After Jake settled into life at the Institute, the two of them began to work on furthering Josh’s telepathic talents. Because of this, his powers have increased a good deal since the period of time surrounding X2 . Both his telepathic range and sensitivity have increased. Relatedly, he has shown skill at surface telepathy (commonly known as mind reading, though he is notoriously bad at ‘forced entry’), as well as being able to sense the presence of others. Astral projection seems to be the next project.
Physical Description:
Josh has black hair, which he likes to keep somewhat spiky, and blue eyes. He thinks of himself as attractive enough, and is in shape his age. Working in the Danger Room on a regular basis tends to keep him trim. He dresses mostly in what would be considered “preppy” clothing: button-up shirts, polo shirts, and jeans. The top of one of his ears is pierced.
Personality:
Josh is a pretty happy-go-lucky kid. Things took a bit of a downturn right after the Battle of Alcatraz, but that’s getting ahead of things.
He’s a good student, though he doesn’t worry too much over school work or that kind of thing. Part of that has to do with his interest in joining the field team - he’s hoping to impress the powers-that-be and snag a spot when there’s an opening. Josh also might be considered a risk taker by some, but he thinks of it as being open-minded. He’d try anything once, for sure. He loves having a good time.
Josh was close to Dr. Jean Grey. Because of her own telekinetic powers, she was the person he came to with questions, and was also his primary Danger Room instructor. He was left with a gaping hole when she sacrificed herself at Alkali. When things got funny because of that mutant-cure business and Jean got killed (again!), he was very depressed for quite some time. He’s currently having problems reconciling the kind woman he knew with the all-powerful Phoenix he heard about. Things got worse when the rumor mill started up and he learned Logan had been forced to kill Phoenix so the entity wouldn’t destroy everyone - since learning of this, he’s been slightly uneasy around Wolverine.
Recently, Storm put both Josh and Bobby Drake through a Danger Room simulation of the Alkali Lake disaster. The two of them were able to save the entire team, including Jean Grey. Josh was initially floored that Storm would ever make him relive the trauma of that day, but since then, he’s come to the conclusion that it may have been for the best. (Of course, he’d never admit that to Ororo herself.) Somehow, the simulation allowed him to move past recent events, to remember her the way she would have wanted him to. However, on his worst days, the fear that he might lose control of his powers, like his mentor, hovers in the back on his mind.
Josh became Bobby’s roommate after John left the Institute. He’s noticed a definite change in him since the events of Alcatraz in the spring. This has lead to several small tiffs, and culminated in a fight on Warren’s birthday. He’s currently trying to figure out why Bobby’s behaving they way he does. As such, their relationship is a little strained, but that’s hardly different than the rest of Bobby’s relationships right now.
He has recently begun dating Warren Worthington. The two of them experienced an unforgettable psychic link the night they admitted their feelings for each other. Since then, their relationship has quickly become serious, and Josh feels Warren is one of the best things that has ever happened to him. One of the benefits of being a telepath is that he knows the feeling is reciprocal.
After an interesting (to say the least!) night out with Bobby, Warren, and Danny, Josh decided on the codename ‘Impulse’.
Despite how his powers initially surfaced, Josh tends to be confident and calm when in times of strife. For now, he’s content for others to lead. He has no hesitation to use them, either. His powers are a gift, and something to grateful for, not ashamed of.
Background:
Josh’s world turned upside down at the age of 14, when his telekinetic powers surfaced explosively and injured another student. Xavier, presumably via Cerebro, identified Josh as a mutant. He sent Storm and Jean to sort things about, and Josh returned to the Institute with the two of them. His parents are glad that he’s learning to control things, though of course they don’t know too much about some of the school’s other activities. His family lives in Florida. Until Xavier’s presented itself and changed his world, he was interested in going to the University of Miami to study biology. Since learning of his mutation, his interest in the field has drifted in the direction of mutant genetics.
Current Affiliation - Xavier Institute Student
