Mandatory Questions
1. What about you is heroic?
“That’s a doozy of a question. Deep down inside, I’d say nothing. When I go out with the X-Men, I’m as terrified of dying as I was on my first mission. Eventually, you learn to control it, and are able to let reality hit you after you’re safe on the ‘Bird. I suppose, though, that fighting against people like Magneto makes me automatically heroic. He doesn’t have compunctions about killing people, that guy.”
2. What about you is social? What do you like about people?
“I love being around everyone. I’m one of those people who get depressed if I’m by myself for too long. It gets too quiet. I think it has to do with being a telepath, actually. Even now that I’ve got it under control, and don’t hear everyone’s dark secrets anymore, being around people just makes me feel more at ease.”
3. Of what benefit could you be to group you're currently affiliated with/intend to be affiliated with?
“Well, now that I’m a part of the X-Men I can lend my telekinetic and telepathic abilities to whatever needs to get done. I suppose that’s a benefit, right? Oh, and Ororo taught me to fly the Blackbird. She said we needed someone else who could fly it solo. I’ve got my pilot’s license now, though being caught with a supersonic stealth jet that’s supposed to be in pieces at the bottom of the Atlantic might still get me in trouble.”
4. Why would/did you choose to join this group?
“I originally wanted to join the X-Men because my mentor, Jean Grey, was one of the original members. Before she died, I’d wanted nothing more than to be able to go along with her on some of the missions. I’d gone with her and Storm on one, a couple weeks before Alkali. After she died, I was a wreck for weeks. Eventually, though, things got a little better. Now, one of the reasons I’m a member is to prevent others from losing the ones they love…” Josh closes his eyes for a second at this.
Personal Questions
5. What is your real, birth name? What name do you use?
“My birth name is Joshua Sebastian Dalton. No one calls me Joshua, though, except when I’m in trouble. Ororo tends to use it, too, for whatever reason. “
6. Do you have a nickname? What is it, and where did you get it?
“Like I said, no one calls me ‘Joshua’. People call me Josh. Sometimes I get called Joshy, too… or J. Warren likes to call me that. My codename with the X-Men is ‘Impulse’. You know, from physics. Force over time…? Eh. Telekinetics tend to take more physics than most. Either Warren or Bobby suggested it when we were out at a movie once - can’t remember which.”
7. What do you look like?
“I have dark hair most of the time. Here and there I might throw some blonde streaks in it, but it’s usually dark. My physique has improved ever since I got more involved with the X-Men…. Oh! I have blue eyes. Sometimes people tell me they’re ‘mesmerizing’, whatever that means.”
8. How do you dress most of the time?
“I wear the normal teenage sort of thing - jeans, t-shirts, button-down shirts, and polo shirts. My cartilage is pierced, if you consider that to be part of my ‘dress’. When I’m on a mission, I wear the normal leather combat uniform. The trim on mine is silver.”
9. How do you "dress up?"
“I’m a teenager. We don’t dress up. Just kidding… let me think for a second. Um, Warren and I went to this charity ball once. I wore a tuxedo.”
10. How do you "dress down?"
“Cheers for being a scrub! On Saturday mornings I enjoy wearing a t-shirt and sweat pants. There’s nothing better than being bundled up under a blanket when winter comes around in upper New York.”
11. What do you wear when you go to sleep?
“That depends on where I sleep. When I’m in my dorm room, the one I share with Bobby, I usually sleep an old t-shirt and a pair of pajama pants. When Warren is home, I sleep in his room… which usually means I wear nothing at all.”
12. Do you wear any jewelry?
“I do. There’s this leather choker I always wear, it has a silver charm on it shaped like the X-Men logo. I was wearing it the night Warren and I started dating. When I discovered his reaction to it, I started wearing it every day. I’ve had to replace it once because I wear it so often. The fastener snapped in half.”
13. In your opinion, what is your best feature?
“What sort of a question is that? Warren says he likes the shape of my ass... happy?”
14. What's your real birth date?
“December 1st, 1988. I turn 18 this winter, and not soon enough! It will be nice to be acknowledged as an adult, because I’ve definitely started to do an adult’s job this fall. Oh. And I suppose that means that I’ll be able to vote and that all that stuff.”
15. Where do you live? Describe it: Is it messy, neat, avant-garde, sparse, etc.?
“Well, the Mansion itself is pretty great. We’ve got everything and more - tennis courts, a swimming pool, gardens, the Danger Room, even a medical lab. The dorm room I share with Bobby is pretty nice. Granted, my side is always a lot cleaner, but between the two of us things balance out. If he leaves his sweaty uniform trunks on my desk chair one more time, though…” He rolls his eyes.
16. Do you own a car? Describe it.
“I don’t own a car, though we’ve got an entire converted gatehouse full of them. My favorite is probably the Vanquish… I mean, seriously! 12 cylinders of perfection! And ours is tricked out; don’t ask me where we got that done, no clue. It has Kevlar inserts in the body panels, a nitro system, an uplink to the main computer back at the Institute, and even more. I don’t get to drive it very much, though.”
17. What is your most prized mundane possession? Why do you value it so much?
“You know, that’s a good question. I don’t really have anything like that, really.”
18. What one word best describes you?
”I’ve been told that I’m adorable… but I don’t think that best describes me. I think that I’m sincere. What you see is what you get, with me. Hiding my emotions behind walls has always been difficult; something I think is connected to my telepathy.”
