Hello all. So as you probably all know, I'm currently living in the Canadian Arctic until Christmas. This area is full of Inuit (a particular people native to the North. Call them Eskimos or Indians and you will be hunted down) and their culture can be seen everywhere. The most obvious sign of their culture is their language, Inuktitut. Inuktitut is interesting because it uses syllabics as opposed to roman letters like English. Each syllabic represents a sound, a spin-off of A I or U (like ra, ri, ru or ka, ki, ku). I had an inuk (an Inuit person) woman at the office teach me the basics of writing Inuktitut today, so I tested it out on some of the character names here. Please note that these are probably not correct and are mostly approximations. You'll know that there are a few sounds missing from Inuktitut that are usually used in English (like O or H sounds), so substitutions must be used. If you'd like my amateur translation of a different name, feel free to IM me on AIM at tomakacara. Enjoy! (And please ignore my annoying spellcheck. This is just a screen capture.)
