((Continuation of Mutants and Politics...kinda)))
Tobias sits alone in his dorm room. He counts himself lucky, as he has no roommate, so no annoying prick sleeping in the same room, more space, and no chance of some poor soul having to live the stereotypical dorm life of rooming with a goth. So, in Tobias' mind, everybody wins.
He sits in the center of the room, typing on a laptop on a desk facing the window, which naturally is shut blocking out all light. His coat is hanging on the back of the nicely-padded chair, leaving the ever-sullen young man in a black T-shit, baggy black jeans with chains, and a cast on his leg. He has recently gotten his arm cast off, leaving another few scars on his back and arm thanks to that little helicopter crash.
Tobias is typing an extra credit assignment for Warren's politics class. Somehow, Tobias' little nack for being an asshole/public speaker landed him with a chance to get his name in the world. Sure, he might have a painting in the den of a collector or extremely small art gallery somewhere, but never in print or something slightly important. Naturally, how could he resist?

First off, I'm not going to try and grab your attention by saying I'm a young mutant who's sad because a bunch of uptight puppets in suits passed a bill that make mommy and daddy fight at night when they think I'm asleep. I'm going to be completely honest with you:
I'm a young mutant who is both insulted and appalled that despite everything, the fact that we're different is such a big deal.
How many times in history has a race been persecuted, or a trial come up dealing with the subject of equality? If you want to be a smart-ass, go look it up, but the point remains: its happening all over again. Lets see: African Americans, Jews, those tribal wars in Africa, and now mutants. Registration Act, we all are forced by law to go to the local government centers, give up our names and all our privacy, and at risk of being thrown in jail (which, we could probably escape fairly easily) or worse, imprisonment with forced Cure treatments. Now, I'm going to ask a question asked by many people: HOW THE HELL IS THIS AMERICAN!?
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness." That, anyone who is reading right now, is from the opening of the Declaration of Independence, the very document that freed us from oppression. Well, unfortunately, all men are NOT created equal, but all men should be TREATED equally! We mutants, according to this document, have 'Unalienable Rights.' With those refusing to submit to the Registration: Liberty is being denied. And with all of us being forced to live like outcasts instead of country men, our pursuits of happiness are dying before they can begin. We still have our lives, but how long until the government takes that away?
To be extremely blunt: We, as a species, are evolving. Sure, we might have jumped a century or two, but if you just think, in time, the term mutant can disappear, and be replaced with normal. Should evolution naturally take its course, in a few years, you who call yourselves 'normal' will be called 'unevolved.' Which, there is nothing wrong with that, but in time, the majority will probably shift. Now, before people get pissed off, and track me down, that's beyond any of our lifetimes, and it might not happen.
To not stand up to defend one's rights, is to be as guilty as those who take them away...no, that was no philosopher, that was me speaking. Yup, a little goth punk sitting alone in the dark typing this out. By reading this, you probably expect this to be written by some slightly disturbed but preppy grad student who is due on the football field in ten minutes to beat the jerks from the rival school. Nope, just little old reclusive me. Pardon my rambling, but I realized that you should probably get a picture of whose words you are reading. I haven't studied politics, I took it because I thought I could sleep in class. But there are some things, those important things in history that you cant just lie down and take. If you think you are a patriot, you can't just stand by and let your fellow man's rights be destroyed. You can't just not say anything, and wait for the lone guy to speak out. The silent majority, even if they think their beliefs, are instantly sided with the oppressor, because they didn't do anything. Case and point: when I stood up in front of my class to discuss the Bill, I was the only one. After I spoke out, only like two or three others had the nerve to leave the assumed silent majority, and become part of the real majority. I know that everyone in that class agreed with what I said, they just didn't say anything.
So, with that reader, I bid you farewell. If you want, go about your lives like you have, and ignore the cruel facts of life and let an entire people be oppressed, or wiped out. You wouldn't care, you're not one of us. Why should you care? You're not in danger, you aren't being oppressed. You, are the oppressor. OR, if you are feeling so generous saying, "I'm not like that! How dare this little anonymous punk say something like that! I'll show him..." You can speak out. You can break the silence, and help...if you do, I will break this anonymity, and allow each and every person who I have insulted in this letter one free revenge shot: be it a punch in the face, a kick in the gut, prank of some kind, or hell, if you are really pissed off and want to join the oppressment again, kill me...but to you who have chosen to do something...well, I am grateful.
As such, farewell, goodbye, and have a nice life. Just, for once, think. Use your brain, and think.
