(( OOC - so, I wrote this originally as part of a different thread, where it turned out not to fit. But hey, I wrote it, so I figured I'd put it here. If anyone wants to pick it up, go for it... if not, that's cool too. ))
Warren concentrates on keeping his breathing steady and his smile in place as the makeup people finish working on him. It feels absurd to worry about stage-fright when he’s been in what seems like an endless series of firefights lately… however badly this interview might go, it’s unlikely to result in anyone dying. But it doesn’t seem to matter… he still gets nervous at the thought of being on camera.
Not that it matters: he’s almost as good at masking nervousness as his makeup crew is at covering up the bruises that remain. His teeth haven’t quite finished growing back in, but he’s gotten some temporary dentures put in place for the cameras – he’s worked too hard training his smile to give it up now. And it won’t do for him to look damaged – the whole point of this interview is to let whoever was responsible for the attack see the X-Men undefeated.
Of course, neither the host nor the vast majority of viewers would know that; the attack on the Institute hadn’t made the news and the connection between the Institute and the X-Men wasn’t public knowledge. But Warren was sure the message would get to the right people. And in the meantime… well, it wasn’t going to be a hostile interview, just a talk-show appearance. He could handle this in his sleep.
He stifles a yawn, and realizes that between dealing with repairs on the Institute and house-training a puppy and completely rewriting his Mutants and Politics curriculum at the last minute to take the whole Strikeback mess into account, he might have to do this in his sleep. All right… let’s get this over with, shall we?
