Past and future, lying together in the grass. In silence, they watch the sky, their lurid arms flush against one another--seamless and almost perfect. A wordless conversation passes between them, each twitch of their separate beings an inflection and sound to the other.
“People are clouds,” says one suddenly.
“Know them once, but never twice,” agrees the other.
“And birds?” ponders the one, tracing the lazy path that a winged creature above follows.
“Synonymous.”
“Falling higher--”
“--as all else falls away.”
Silence.
“Are we clouds?” asks one.
“No. We are birds that want to be clouds.”
