Pyro's new character! Using Meggan Braddock, aka Goblin Princess / Captain Britain's wife, as inspiration, but giving her a complete re-working
Name
Megan Drukker
Codename
Goblin
Age

Mutation: Adaptive / Empathic Metamorphosis
a) Adaptive Metamorphosis
Simply put, Megan shapeshifts based upon Adaptive Logic (i.e. the features which some survival instinct decrees most useful for her continued survival). This was evidenced in her first recognised *shift* - growing fur to keep warm. Further examples might be developing fish-like scales, webbing between her digits and proto-gills when underwater, cat- style eyes for better night vision, or talons, quills, armadillo-style armour plating etc when attacked. At present this is instinctive (she can't choose to trigger or turn off her ability, or determine what features she ends up with) and limited to physical, biological adaptations (she cannot, for example, turn her skin to metal or stone, but she can develop scales or *natural* plating - in broad terms, she copies adaptations in other animals), though given time she hopes to control and harness it. It may be hypothesized that as she copies existing adaptations, and mutations may be seen as a form of adaptation, that given time and the adequate degree of control she may one day be able to copy other mutations, though there is no evidence as of yet to suggest she has done or is currently able to do so.
b) Empathic Metamorphosis
Megan's shapeshifting is also, to a lesser extent, modified by her own emotional state and the emotions she picks up in others (it may be argued that this is evidence of a second distinct power - that of empathy - but may equally be just good people-reading skills). For example, when faced with horror at her mutation (as she encountered on her first shift) her features tend to become more monstrous, while when faced with acceptance she may seem more *human*. When angry she may develop some or all of her arsenal (e.g. claws). This side of her mutation is likely to fade, rather than increase, as she gains more control, but for the moment it leaves her even more unpredictable, and also very easy to *read*.
Given the speed with which she seems able to re-write her genetic make-up, it may be hypothesized that she possesses a degree of accelerated healing, although what degree, both in terms of speed and the seriousness of injuries it can cope with, has not been put to the test as of yet.
Physical Description
In base / human form, Megan is fairly diminutive, and boyish of build, with rounded, childish features. Her most striking features are probably her doe eyes - a deep, golden hazel in colour - and pixie-ish cupid's bow mouth. Her hair is mousy, and hacked short. In terms of clothing, Megan favours boyish styles. She has a weakness for "trashy" accessories (mardi gras beads, novelty earrings, oversized bracelets, necklaces that look like some kid strung them together... you name it) and hats.
Personality
You know the solitary girl in a gang of guys? The one who's *one of the blokes*, almost more so than some of the blokes themselves? That's Megan. If she had any balls, they'd be solid steel. Her laughter is raucous, her humour crass, and her right hook mean. True, this brassy side has been a little muted since she started *flipping out*, but it's a pretty safe bet she won't be out of sorts for too long; bouncing back's always been something she's good at.
Concentrating, on the other hand, isn't. Her attention flits around faster than an over-caffeinated goldfish, from one thing to the next according to whatever grabs her interest. Likewise her speech is at a million miles an hour (doubly difficult to deal with given her welsh accent and penchant for inserting Welsh-romany phrases into conversation ad lib) and takes tangents as-and-when it pleases her. She's very good, however, at spotting when others are spouting *bull*, and quickly becomes frustrated when someone isn't "shooting straight" with her.
Her Kale background has left her with three enduring traits: firstly, she's a survivor who can adapt to new environments (mentally, in addition to the advantages afforded by her mutation) and pick up new skills - when she can be bothered to pay enough attention - reasonably quickly, and put up with less-than-ideal conditions with ne'er a grumble (at the other end of the spectrum, she's perhaps overly grateful for any little luxury afforded her, and oddly sentimental when it comes to keepsakes from anywhere they've moved on from). Secondly, she's highly superstitious. Thirdly, she knows the value of audience - back then weaseling a few coins out of the punters was top priority - and so can turn on a formidable degree of her *unique* charm when the need arises and, perhaps less luckily, has a tendency to *act up* when she knows she has the attention of the crowd.
Background
Born into a traditional Kale clan (her surname, Drukker, is Welsh-romany for 'to tell fortunes') as the daughter of a Kale mother and new-age-hippy Father who'd joined up with the clan as *part of the dream* and youngest of five children - her four older brothers are, it is assumed, all baseline humans - Megan spent her early years traveling with her extended, very traditional Welsh-romany family, picking up an education in (besides readin', writin' and 'rithmatic) slightly more obscure disciplines including horsemanship, sleight-of-hand and bareknuckle fighting.
From being the baby of the bunch she soon established herself as a scrapper more than capable of holding her own amongst the ramshackle brood, and if they came away from the scuffles screaming that she was a demon and with a few more scratches than perhaps normal it was just her way of proving herself to the boys, right? Couldn't be anything else, not when - on the other hand - she'd proved herself so very adept at charming whatever audience they could find with magic-tricks and minor divination.
Her mutation activated (pending, perhaps, those early incidents which got written up as *playing a little rougher than girls should*) fairly late, and in spectacular style, with her growing fur during a particularly cold spell. Her extended family reacted with horror, thinking her the victim of a curse. Sessions with various gurus and wise-women and new-age experts of every sort did nothing to alleviate the condition, with her continuing to change with each new treatment - an acupuncturist was stunned to find his needles breaking off armour plating, the rebirthing expert wasn't quite prepared for a human-fish hybrid to emerge from her pool... and so the saga continued.
Finally, her parents decided on a radical option; if nothing else had worked, they reasoned, then the curse must be connected to some form of possession, and an exorcism was the logical next step. They made contact with a radical cleric who'd recently moved to the area - a man by the name of Kurt Wagner.
Kurt had been teaching at the Institute, but left with his paramour [I forget her name... Bella?] to pursue other interests. With Moira McTaggert's help he was able to establish himself as an *alternative* to the mainstream clergy. He, of course, recognized Megan for what she was - a fledgling mutant with powers outside her control - and made the necessary arrangements to get her the specialist aid McTaggert and Xavier had pioneered. Given the choice of Muir Island in Scotland or the Institute proper... Megan did what any sane Welsh lass would.
