So, Warren/Bobby and I were doing some brainstorming tonight, and we came up with a possible mission for the X-Men. Basically the scenario goes a little like this:
A group takes key members of the Pentagon/Congress/etc hostage and the parties in charge give the X-Men a little call for help. Since the amount of active X-Men in the forum itself is a little low, and there's currently no Storm, Hank, or Wolverine (kinda) so they can be off somewhere. Bobby or Kitty or someone else takes the lead, and our heroes are off.
1) the mission setup would be for 4-5 heroes, but if there was enough interest the plot could be developed enough to have two strike teams. Basically anything to prevent 10 posters in one thread.
2) villians are a little trickier. we saw two options. NPC villains that we spend a little effort on making more distinct than typical black-ops troopers or...
3) make this a Brotherhood operation. I'd say the stipulation would be that there would be clearly defined objectives for the Brotherhood to undertake the mission, or else it will likely end up in a standoff/ dead thread. and no one likes those.
I think this would be a good stepping stone (and training ground) for the possible sitewide plot.
Any thoughts, anyone?

Some random thoughts: 1) Villain/terrorist team does a twofold thing. Team A kidnaps Important Person and hides somewhere. Team B breaks into Congress on national TV, puts up an impenetrable forcefield around the room, and announces that unless Congress passes a Mutant Rights Law in the next 10 hours they'll start killing Congressmen, and even if they're stopped Important Person will still be killed. (Yes, this is nonsense. They aren't too politically savvy.) The X-Men catch this on TV and get involved. Kurt/Kitty are obvious choices for impenetrable-forcefield penetration. Sheppard/Cerebro can get a lead on the location of Important Person, Logan can follow scent trail from there.
2) Team B includes a shapeshifter (or maybe someone like the Morlock's Masque) and is impersonating Magneto. Which gets him and the BH involved if they want to be. Potential BH/X-men interactions, maybe even a scuffle or two, though ultimately they're kinda on the same side.
3) Players dealing with Team A also play the villains in Team B, and vice-versa, which splits up the villain workload. (Kinda like the clones in the random fight scene, except not clones, natch. Pick your favorite canon badguys. I'd say DON'T pick X-man type characters, since other players may want to play them, though cheap knockoffs are OK.)
4) Successful rescue of Important Person may be the trigger for the "X-men as sanctioned military team" idea Pyro was discussing earlier.

Holy cow, you guys have been thinking this through, haven't you? Which is a very, very good thing *hands out cookies*
Not that I'm really in charge of the x-side of the site, but sure, I'm up for that. The whole BH/X *sort of on the same side* thing'll be interesting, given how Alcatraz is still fairly recent history as well as the obvious complications a la fire&ice etc.
Canon villains would be good. In the event that the BH don't get involved, then maybe we can handle a couple for you X-guys, or NPC is always good.
Getting the 'younger' x-team out there can only be a good thing, given where this thing is headed.
Erm... yeah. That's about all I can think to add just now, being as how I'm suffering the effects of fresher's week eating my brain.

Oooooh, random question? I know I *just* started playing, but this gave me an idea, 'cause I'm a plotter at heart. Maybe we could have one of the random NPCs be Ms. Marvel? An' have a certian little "accident" occur? T'would be fun - only, y'know, not f'the characters. But I've always loved playing a flying Rogue. ;D

Well, Miss Marvel in and of herself opens up a whole can of alien worms we may not want to open, but having Rogue do the permanent-power-theft thing with one of the NPC mutants (along with the subsequent schizoid thing) could be really cool... suddenly makes her even scarier than she was.

Oh, and Pyro - if you aren't in charge of the X-side of the site, who is?

I love the idea of Rogue getting her "canon" power set in the adventure! Yay! Plus rp-ing with Zombie!Rozana, heh.
And I'm also curious who's in charge of the X-side.

@ Warren: Ah'm scary? Really? Li'll ol' me? *batts eyelashes*
Y'like zombies, don'cha Joshy ;D
I do think the alien thing was a little odd, and would be odd, here, too....So, maybe we make her non-alien - just Roguey be power surging, or holding on too long and totally kill 'er in a random fit of rage..!
Or something. I can't really picture Movie!Rogue getting any sort of fit of rage, let alone one that woul make her kill - she's generally too...nice...

Li'l ol' kill-with-a-touch-and-oh-by-the-way-I-have-your-powers-now you? Yeah, not scary at all.
OK, so try this on for size: One of the "enemy" mutants (call him/her "Template" for now) has metapowers similar to Rogue and Danny, s/he can steal mutant abilities. Template goes into the fight with miss-marvelly powers (flight, strength, physical toughness), never mind where they came from (some off-camera mutants somewhere).
During the fight, either Template attempts to steal Rogue's abilities or Rogue touches Template for some other reason, and their powers do a weird interlocky thing where neither of them is able to break the circuit, and they play tug-of-war for all the marbles, at the end of which Template fall down go boom, either permanently powerless or dead.
Rogue ends up with both psyches in her head and the full power set on top of it, and immediately requires approximately seventeen years of psychotherapy on top of whatever her current count is.
If that sounds good, I'd say Rogue's player should go ahead and run Template as well... after all, you're going to be RPing her psyche in your head moving forward anyway. This one's worth coming up with a history and personality for, probably.

Hmmm.....have to say I like the direction this is heading. Not a big fan of the whole Ms. Marvel appearance, so I say we go with the above mentioned idea or something similar. Ms. Marvel tends to lead us in an all too uncomfortable relationship with comic canons.

I think the next step would be to sign up for this thread. Like I said, we're going for 4-5 members at one site. If we get enough people, then we can fill a second infiltration site. If not, established characters that have no players can "handle" that site.
Anyone also interested in running an NPC villain should also indicate that here. Probably the same amount or so needed.
Anyone in the Brotherhood who would be interested in staging their little bit should also indicate that, though that's really up to Mags (or not, you little rebels!).

Count Bobby in on one of the teams -- don't care which. If we do two teams, I'll do a villain for the one Bobby isn't in (don't wanna fight myself). Warren will be conveniently out of town. Wanda might watch and eat popcorn.

Nyeh... hmm. If Mags wants in, then no doubt I'll be doing my puppy routine again. Otherwise I'm happy to handle NPCs for ya.
